18005 Quartz w/ Actinolite, Colorless w/Dk Green, 13.46 cts emerald cut measuring 15.5x12.8x10.3 mm, lt incl, from the Calumet Iron Mine, Colorado. This location is only a 30 minute drive and 20 minute hike from Salida. It is know for its quartz crystals with unusual inclusions as well as fine epidote crystals, actinolite, and uralite specimens. This is a well cut gem with light actinolite needle inclusions and small patches of tiny epidote crystals. Priced at $12/carat or $161.52/gem
18002 Rhodolite Garnet, Md Intense Pink, 2.12 cts emerald brilliant cut measuring 9.0x5.4x4.5 mm, eye clean, from Madagascar. We found a small parcel of rough that we purchased during the mid-1990's that was labeled "Rhodolite Garnet, Madagascar". When we saw the piece of rough this gem was cut from we knew we had to see if the color held as it well has. The pink is very intense and the gem is completely clean. 18014 Smoky Quartz, Md Dk Yellowish Brown, 31.94 cts split sided brilliant cut measuring 21.9x16.7x14.0 mm, eye clean, from Colorado. The rough that this gem was cut from was mined on the topaz claim that is featured in the Prospectors TV show that can be seen on the Weather Channel Tuesday nights through May 15th. We acquired a small parcel of rough from this location during the mid-1990’s at the time a large pocket of amethyst was uncovered. We did some modifications to the original cut corner triangle cut by adding fifteen facets with remarkable results. The colors of this gem are derived from the purple amethyst, the orange citrine, and the mix of the two the produces a strong pink color. A truly unique gem that would make a stunning pendant. Demantoid Garnets
17332 Demantoid Garnet,x Md Dk Yellowish Brown, 3.65 cts oval brilliant cut measuring 10.8x7.8x5,7 mm, eye clean, from Namibia. Although yellowish brown in color this gem contains the necessary trace amount of chromium to distinguishes it as a demantoid garnet. Under a Chelsea filter it appears intense red. An indication of the chromium content. An exceptionally clean and well cut gem for this member of the garnet family and priced well below similar size demantoid garnet from other locations. This gem appears black upon first examination but is a rich, very dark green when viewed with transmitted light. It also contains characteristic horsetail inclusions. Grandite Garnets	Grandite garnets are a hybrid of grossular and andradite garnet that are found in Mali, West Africa. The color range is from colorless, yellow, orange, brown, and green. We recently encountered a chrome rich red grandite garnet.

This is a very large grandite garnet and is very rare in this size and quality. The color is a fine orange and the clarity exceptional. This is the largest grandite garnet we have ever faceted. 17932 Grandite Garnet,x Dk Red/Brownish Orange, 3.12 cts round 16 main brilliant cut measuring 8.7x5.9 mm, eye clean, from Mali. This piece of rough looked unusual to us as we have seen Mali garnets in every color but red. Once cut we tested it for chromium content and found it rich with chromium which explains its apparent color change and rich red color. A very unusual chrome grandite garnet. 17801 Tourmaline C.C.,x Md Dk Yellowish Brown/Purplish Pink, 37.86 cts oval brilliant cut measuring 24.4x19.7x13.8 mm, eye clean, from Mozambique. This is a very unusual tourmaline. We acquired the rough prior to the knowledge that Mavuca tourmalines had copper in them as this is where this particular gem originates. Most of the time the color is a shift from yellowish brown to pinkish brown but this gem displays a very strong pink hue under fluorescent light, a purplish pink in daylight, a yellowish brown under incandescent light and orangish brown under LED light. John Sinkankas reports that these gems were found in a single pocket that was open in the Chimney Rock Quarry in Bound Brook, New Jersey during the mid-1970’s that produced over 5,000 crystals. We acquired some of the crystals from that pocked years ago and recently faceted one with wonderful results. If you are interested we will include a crystal from this deposit for an additional $25.
