Md Dk Intense Reddish/Bluish Purple, 6.18 cts oval brilliant cut measuring 14.1x10.5x8.1 mm, v lt incl, from Namibia. This is one of the finest amethysts John has ever faceted. It is unusual in that it displays a strong color shift from daylight where it appears bluish purple to incandescent light where it appears reddish purple. Under an LED light it looks like top quality tanzanite. A single light, tiny crystal inclusions authenticates its natural origin.

17276 Aquamarine, Md Lt Greenish Blue, 4.05 cts split sided brilliant cut measuring 11.0x9.1x6.8 mm, v lt incl, from Pakistan. This gem was faceted from a damaged crystal specimen. The color is 100% natural with some very light needle inclusions. Priced at $50/carat or $202.50/gem
17279 Iolite, Dk Blue, 3.65 cts split sided brilliant cut measuring 12.4x7.5x6.4 mm, lt incl, from Tanzania. A well cut gem with a light snowball inclusion. This gem displays the deep blue color and dichroism for which iolite is known to exhibit. Priced at $40/carat or $146.00/gem
17269 Smoky Quartz, Md Dk Yellowish Brown, 16.52 cts emerald brilliant cut measuring 19.7x11.6x10.7 mm, eye clean, from Devil’s Head, Colorado. We obtained the rough from which this gem is faceted from a friend who has had quite a bit of luck hunting for gems at this well known Colorado location for smoky quartz. 17271 Topaz, Md Dk Orange 6.48 cts emerald brilliant cut measuring 11.0x9.3x7.3 mm, lt incl, from North Carolina. We obtained the rough from which this gem was faceted from a mineral dealer who had the location labeled as North Carolina. We cannot find a reference for such a location and have to trust our source that it indeed originates from there. Priced at $60/carat or $388.80/gem
17274 Tourmaline, Md Dk Bluish Green, 2.01 cts kite brilliant cut measuring 11.5x8.1x5.5 mm, eye clean, from Namibia. A beautiful, emerald green tourmaline in an unusual custom cut. Priced at $150/carat or $301.50/gem
17272 Tourmaline, Md Intense Pink, 4.71 cts emerald brilliant cut measuring 11.6x7.9x6.6 mm, lt incl, from the Cruziero Mine, Brazil. The rough from which this gem was cut was acquired at the Cruziero Mine headquarters during our 2000 visit to Brazil. The Cruziero Mine is known for producing some of the finest pink tourmalines found anywhere. The mine has since been closed as production and water issues no longer make it a viable mining operation. 17275 Tourmaline, Md Pink, 9.87 cts oval brilliant cut measuring 17.4x11.3x8.3 mm, eye clean, from Mavuca, Mozambique. A well cut clean gem that originated in the same deposit the produces the now famous cuprian tourmalines. Priced at $90/carat or $888.30/gem
17278 Tourmaline, Md Dk Golden Brown, 8.61 cts emerald brilliant cut measuring 18.5x8.1x7.3 mm, eye clean, from Mozambique. Ones first thought of this gem would be that it is a smoky quartz due to its color, however, we assure you that it is indeed a tourmaline. This is another gem tourmaline from the deposit at Mavuca. 17268 Tourmaline, Bicolor, Md Golden Yellow, Intense Green, 4.95 cts emerald cut measuring 19.4x12.0x 11.0 mm, lt incl, from the Congo. An unusual, bicolor tourmaline with golden yellow dominating the gem grading into an intense green. This gem is for the collector of unusual bicolor tourmalines. Priced at $50/carat or $247.50/gem
17270 Umbalite (Pyrospessartite) Garnet, Md Dk Intense Pink 3.18 cts oval brilliant cut measuring 10.4x7.2x5.5 mm, eye clean, from Tanzania. 17243 Amethyst, Md Dk Purple, 15.41 cts Portuguese round brilliant cut measuring 15.9x12.3 mm, v lt incl, from Deer Hill, Maine. We acquired a small parcel of rough from this location during the mid-1990’s at the time a large pocket of amethyst was uncovered. The location has since been closed to mining to allow it to recover from the digging that occurred after the pocket discovery. Priced at $20/carat or $308.20/gem

17202 Ametrine, Md Purple/Pink/Orange, 22.11 cts cut corner triangle brilliant cut measuring 18.7x18.6x13.6 mm, eye clean, from Bolivia. We did some modifications to the original cut corner triangle cut by adding fifteen facets with remarkable results. The colors of this gem are derived from the purple amethyst, the orange citrine, and the mix of the two the produces a strong pink color. A truly unique gem that would make a stunning pendant. We acquired the rough from which this gem was cut particularly because we could cut it in this very popular pattern. The color could go either way as beryl or more descriptive aquamarine. 16215 Citrine, Md Intense Orange, 8.42 cts oval brilliant cut measuring 16.0x11.7x8.7 mm, eye clean, from Uruguay. Uruguayan rough amethyst and citrine has been very difficult to come by over the years. We recently acquired several pieces of each and have already sold out of the amethyst. 17101 Citrine (n), Md Intense Yellowish Orange, 12.98 cts emerald brilliant cut measuring 17.1x 11.5x10.1 mm, eye clean, from Zambia. We acquired the rough from which this gem was cut in Namibia during our visit in April. The source informed us that it is natural and unheated. A stunning gem of exceptional color and cut. Priced at $25/carat or $324.50/gem Note: Since posting this gem and image we have heard from a customer who tells us the natural citrine may indeed come from Namibia. A stunning gem no matter where it originated.

We acquired a small parcel of rough citrine that was indicated as originating in Zambia during our trip to Namibia. The color is reported to be natural and unheated. Demantoid Garnets

A demantoid garnet is defined as an andradite garnet that contains chromium. In these gems it is indicated by a strong red color under a Chelsea filter. These beautiful garnets were originally discarded during mining for rhodolite garnets and thus the name “Malaya” which means castaway in Swahili. This gem is cut in an original, unique design. 16854 Pyrospessartite “Imperial” Garnet, Md Pinkish Orangish Red, 5.88 cts split sided brilliant cut measuring 13.6x7.8x6.3 mm, v lt incl, from Tanzania. This ember of the garnet family resembles the finest, sherry color topaz which is probably where the term “imperial” originated in describing this color. The rough this gem was cut from was acquired in Denver at the 2010 shows because it was the largest and finest piece of rough material we have seen.
