Gems Cut By Us for January 2012

January's Feature Gem
17273 Amethyst,
Md Dk Intense Reddish/Bluish Purple, 6.18 cts oval brilliant cut measuring 14.1x10.5x8.1 mm, v lt incl, from Namibia. This is one of the finest amethysts John has ever faceted. It is unusual in that it displays a strong color shift from daylight where it appears bluish purple to incandescent light where it appears reddish purple. Under an LED light it looks like top quality tanzanite. A single light, tiny crystal inclusions authenticates its natural origin.
Priced at $40/carat or $247.20/gem

Dk Red, 6.68 cts split sided brilliant cut measuring 12.4x8.3x6.7 mm, v lt incl, from Brazil. A deep, rich red garnet with maybe a very slight purplish overtone depending under which type of light it is viewed.
